In November 2025, the ÃûæÂÖ±²¥ was delighted to welcome a senior delegation from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) for a day of collaborative discussions, knowledge exchange, and exploration of future partnership opportunities.
The delegation included Rector Magnificus Professor Jeroen Geurts, Professor Welmoet Boender (Vice-Dean Education, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities), Professor Andreas Daffertshofer (Faculty of Behavioural and Movement Sciences, Neurocontrol), and Reyka Lycklama à Nijeholt (Policy Advisor on Internationalisation). The visit formed part of an ongoing dialogue between the two universities, aimed at deepening academic links and advancing shared priorities.
The visit began with an engaging lunch meeting attended by Sussex Vice-Chancellor Professor Sasha Roseneil and Professor Robin Banerjee, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Global & Civic Engagement. Conversations set a productive tone for the visit, addressing several strategic areas including:
- Global partnership development
- Student mobility and joint education initiatives
- Emerging research in neuroscience and psychology
- Enhancing the student experience across both institutions
Throughout the discussions, both universities identified strong areas of alignment. Sussex and VU Amsterdam share a longstanding commitment to open and collaborative research, building inclusive and supportive communities, and accelerating progress in sustainability. These are values that both institutions emphasised as key foundations for future joint work.
Sussex is looking forward to building on this momentum and working closely with colleagues at VU Amsterdam to develop impactful initiatives.
