Advanced Conservation Biology

Module 854C1

Module details for 2025/26.

15 credits

FHEQ Level 7 (Masters)

Module Outline

This module focuses on advanced and cutting-edge topics in conservation biology, guided by faculty experts or externals actively engaged in current research. Evidence, literature, and arguments on these topics wth be presented, providing students with a robust foundation to critically engage with contemporary conservation challenges. Students will demonstrate their ability to apply systematic biological principles to analyze and evaluate various conservation and restoration strategies for populations and habitats. They will integrate findings from primary scientific literature to produce concise, well-reasoned syntheses, akin to the work of expert advisors to government bodies.

Module learning outcomes

Demonstrate a systematic knowledge and understanding of the biological principles behind the conservation of species and habitats, including the main threats to survival and how these threats can be managed

Critically analyse and assess different approaches and methods for the conservation and restoration of populations and habitats

Integrate, synthesise and critically assess the conservation implications of research findings from the primary scientific literature
