Module Outline
The module brings together study skills and laboratory skills. Topics covered will include the following:
• Academic writing
• Report skills
• Referencing
• Paraphrasing
• Analysis
• Statistics
Students will engage in practicals and develop competencies within a range of techniques that will link to the topics covered within the Introduction to Biology module.
The assessment will include a Pass/Fail essay, which aims to provide students with an opportunity to test their academic skills, and an e-portfolio which is 100% of the formal assessment; allowing students to demonstrate their skills development by compiling their work using current technology such as video clips and blogs.
Module learning outcomes
Demonstrate the ability to use current technology for oral and written presentation of work (including but not limited to, Word, Excel & Power Point)
Demonstrate familiarity with techniques for conducting, evaluating and reporting on research
Demonstrate competency within a range of basic biology laboratory techniques
Present technical information in a clear and structured fashion
