Module Outline

This optional module will focus on developing student competence in two major areas: selected clinical conditions and their treatment including mental health. Students will be introduced to the underlying pathology of selected diseases affecting the reproductive, respiratory, cardiovascular, central nervous and gastrointestinal systems.

The therapeutic use of drugs will be covered in relation to the management of diseases such as ischaemic heart disease, myocardial infarction, asthma, dyspepsia and depression.

Students will also be introduced to key skills that underpin modern healthcare practice. Students will also attend a formal practical session to understand the histological changes that occur in selected diseases.

E-learning resources will be linked to some of the teaching content. In groups, students will create these electronic learning materials on selected topics and present their work to the cohort. This activity is designed to enhance employability skills such as presentation, communication and team-working skills for our students.
