Core Laboratory Skills for Chemists 2 (F1008)
Core Laboratory Skills for Chemists 2
Module F1008
Module details for 2025/26.
15 credits
FHEQ Level 5
Module Outline
This module includes a section on organic synthesis and a section on spectroscopy and kinetics. It will be linking theory into practice. You will have the opportunity to carry out rearrangements reactions as well as determine the structure of your synthesised compounds based on your experimental analytical data. You will apply your theoretical knowledge of spectroscopic techniques and reaction rates to real chemical systems in the laboratory. You will be using equipment with industry standards to gain the skills to enable you in your future chemistry industry career.
Module learning outcomes
Use a range of experimental techniques effectively for the production and purification of compounds.
Determine the structure of synthesised compounds using spectroscopic data.
Apply knowledge of spectroscopic techniques and kinetic theory to successfully perform experiments.
Use experimental data to determine spectroscopic and kinetic parameters.

Please note that the University will use all reasonable endeavours to deliver courses and modules in accordance with the descriptions set out here. However, the University keeps its courses and modules under review with the aim of enhancing quality. Some changes may therefore be made to the form or content of courses or modules shown as part of the normal process of curriculum management.
The University reserves the right to make changes to the contents or methods of delivery of, or to discontinue, merge or combine modules, if such action is reasonably considered necessary by the University. If there are not sufficient student numbers to make a module viable, the University reserves the right to cancel such a module. If the University withdraws or discontinues a module, it will use its reasonable endeavours to provide a suitable alternative module.
