Phases, Transitions and Reaction Kinetic (F1703)
Phases, Transitions and Reaction Kinetics
Module F1703
Module details for 2025/26.
15 credits
FHEQ Level 5
Module Outline
This module aims to build upon students’ understanding of the behaviour of chemical systems from previous modules. You will apply equilibrium thermodynamics to systems undergoing phase transitions, examine the thermodynamics of mixing under varied conditions and consolidate your understanding of how systems can be described and represented. You will apply your knowledge of chemical kinetics to real-world systems and examine complex reaction scenarios by applying kinetic models and approximations. You will evaluate Collision Theory and Transition State Theory, examine the effect of temperature on chemical kinetics and apply kinetics to photochemical reactions.
Module learning outcomes
Understand the thermodynamics of phase transitions.
Demonstrate knowledge of phase equilibria.
Identify and understand what is meant by ideal and non-ideal solutions.
Demonstrate a critical understanding of complex chemical kinetics.
