Cell Pathology, Physiology and Anatomy (C7164)
Cell Pathology, Physiology and Anatomy
Module C7164
Module details for 2025/26.
15 credits
FHEQ Level 5
Module Outline
This module introduces human physiology and anatomy and invites students to study tissue pathology. We will explore how our body systems such as cardiorespiratory, digestive, reproductive, nervous systems work in maintain homeostasis. Students will also learn what happens when the one or more of the organ systems become dysfunctional and study their pathologies at cellular and tissue levels using histology. Students will have an opportunity to study the human body in detail during workshops in the Brighton and Sussex Medical School Anatomy Laboratory. Students will attend an assessed practical studying histological changes in diseased tissues versus healthy tissues which will be examined in the form of a lab report. There will be seminars where students will analyse case studies in groups related to human physiology and pathology. Students will also present their work in groups and will write an essay on diabetes as a break-down of control and regulation, and satiety mechanisms and obesity.
Module learning outcomes
Demonstrate knowledge of key bodily systems and explain how they function
Explain how physiological systems become dysfunctional and apply knowledge of diseases through problem solving.
Demonstrate an ability to critically examine and present experimental data in pathology
Outline the principles involved in histochemistry and demonstrate an understanding of tissue preparation for histological examination
