Asymmetric Synthesis and Catalysis (856C1)
Asymmetric Synthesis and Catalysis
Module 856C1
Module details for 2025/26.
15 credits
FHEQ Level 7 (Masters)
Module Outline
This module explores the latest advances in Asymmetric Synthesis. It is based on recent findings in the subject, combining lectures with workshops, research talks, directed and independent reading and a critical work. Lectures will present current capability, with a focus on the mechanisms involved, modern rationalizations and the limits of current capability. Workshops will provide a discussion forum for problem-solving activities and analysis using targets of biological and industrial interest.
Module learning outcomes
Show an in-depth knowledge and critical awareness of current topics in asymmetric synthesis and catalysis
Critically investigate an advanced topic in the field of asymmetric synthesis and catalysis and present this material to a professional audience
Be able to formulate their own reasoned opinions, evaluate methodologies and propose new opinions in asymmetric synthesis and catalysis
Understand the underlying mechanisms and apply this understanding to solve problems with originality in asymmetric synthesis and catalysis
