Module 822C3
Module details for 2025/26.
15 credits
FHEQ Level 7 (Masters)
Module Outline
This module is designed to develop your ability to extract, discuss and critically evaluate information presented in research seminars and publications. Extracting and critiquing information is a key skill in developing a research career and valued by graduate employers.
You will attend seminars in relevant research areas and produce a critical commentary of the research and its wider context. In addition, you will attend ‘journal clubs’ where you will examine, in detail, recent publications with significant implications in their research field. As well as presenting and critiquing the figures you are encouraged to engage in discussion of the paper.
Module learning outcomes
Summarise and critically evaluate a research seminar, identifying the main questions and findings.
Write a concise report, explaining the findings reported in a seminar for a non-specialist reader, and relating them to contemporary literature.
