Module Outline

In this module you will develop the professional skills required to operate in a medicinal science
workplace. You will the compile of a portfolio of training, highlighting your considerable vocational and
employability skills. You will create your own professional CV and log of professional development
activities. Though analysis of scientific communication to a range of audiences you will understand how
to write in specific styles, including explaining complex concepts to a lay person as well a brief,
referenced commentary pieces to a scholarly audience. The topic of molecular modelling for Drug
Design will be investigated, giving you vital, hands on experience of this key skill. The module can also
incorporates cross-disciplinary lectures, School seminars and other developmental activities recorded
through a reflective commentary.

Module learning outcomes

Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of work skills including CPD, reflective writing and CV writing, presentation skills, report writing and referencing.

Use computer software to gain deep understanding of drug/receptor interactions and structure design to generate novel molecules with predicted improved performance.

Use a range of methods (key words/structure searching) to efficiently find, refine and select material from the primary literature to understand and solve advanced problems in medicinal chemistry.
