Advanced Green Chemistry and Organic Syn (F1608)
Advanced Green Chemistry and Organic Synthesis
Module F1608
Module details for 2025/26.
15 credits
FHEQ Level 7 (Masters)
Module Outline
Organic synthesis is vital to the prosperity of multiple industries, yet to carry out synthesis at scale has the potential to harm living organisms and cause irreversible damage to the environment. You will discover how to transform organic synthesis using the 12 principles of green chemistry, and adopt more sustainable manufacturing processes for a modern world. The use of renewable raw materials, more energy efficient processes, and the reduction of waste and toxic materials will enable you to put the effect on the environment at the forefront of new reaction and reactor design, to lessen the impact of human activity on our ecosystem.
Module learning outcomes
Critically appraise and deploy the key principles of green chemistry to show how this can bring future benefits to society and industries
Understand and critically evaluate chemical processes with ethical responsibility to qualify and quantify their adherence to green chemistry principles.
Devise solutions to problems in organic synthesis using emerging technologies to reduce the environmental impact of chemical processes.
Demonstrate systematic understanding of reaction mechanism for green chemical processes.
