Biochemistry and Metabolism (C7411)
Biochemistry and Metabolism
Module C7411
Module details for 2025/26.
15 credits
FHEQ Level 4
Module Outline
This module will introduce youto several fundamental principles of biochemistry and metabolism. You will learn about the structure and function of major classes of biomolecules including proteins, lipids and carbohydrates; the role of enzymes and enzyme kinetics in biological reactions; and the biochemistry of processes which support life, including cellular metabolism and its control. You will also explore the theory and practical use of commonly used biochemical lab techniques.
Module learning outcomes
Explain the fundamental concepts of biochemistry and their inter-relationships, considering thermodynamics
Demonstrate an understanding of metabolic pathways and their control, with respect to homeostasis
Apply an understanding of enzyme kinetics with reference to inhibitors
Demonstrate an understanding of fundamental practical biochemistry laboratory skills and analytical methods
