Module Outline
The overall aim of this module is to allow you to pursue a deeper understanding of a particular topic of your choice. You could opt to carry out an experimental project, aimed at producing or analysing new data on this topic; or you could instead decide to pursue a systematic and critical review of the relevant scientific literature in this area; or you could devise a strategy to educate the public on this subject.
The project will develop your critical abilities to survey the scientific literature, appraise scientific papers and data, understand cutting-edge scientific techniques and disseminate and communicate scientific information.
Module learning outcomes
Critically survey and appraise the literature around a particular topic.
Systematically comprehend the advantages, disadvantages, and limitations of research techniques.
Critically evaluate arguments, assumptions and data, and make judgements with an awareness of the limits of knowledge
Draw on a thorough appreciation of how research is conducted to interpret findings and reach conclusions.
Devise an effective strategy to communicate scientific information, ideas, problems and solutions to various audiences.
Establish a strategy to tackle a scientific issue, and to organise a project to take it to its conclusion.
