Module C7102

Module details for 2022/23.

15 credits

FHEQ Level 5

Module Outline

The life-cycles of infectious agents that cause human diseases and their contribution to disease process will be presented. The intricate molecular mechanisms used to express viral genes and replicate viral genomes are key targets for drug discovery and will be studied in detail. The molecular biology underlying the mode of action of current therapeutic drugs will be discussed. Recent developments using vaccination and immunotherapy against cancer viruses will be presented. Key practical skills will be developed through laboratory sessions.

Module learning outcomes

Develop a systematic understanding of the molecular basis for the expression of viral genes and the replication of viral genomes and the mechanisms of action of antiviral agents.

Communicate information effectively in a written form

Critically evaluate primary data from diagnostic experiments

Report Experiments Accurately
