This course is set at Level 6 in the national Framework for Higher Education Qualifications.
Course learning outcomes
Demonstrate a borad-based knowledge of the fundamentals of concepts, principles, techniques and issues which are crucial for future study at FHEQ Level 4 in the biosciences subject area
Analyse and interpret data and information with reference to fundamental concepts and principles that underpin future study at Level 4 and beyond
Safely perform basic laboratory techniques under guidance
Develop their study skills to support their learning at Level 4 and beyond
Demonstrate a basic understanding of different approaches to problem solving in disciplines that underpin future study at Level 4 and higher in the biosciences
Demonstrate skills in the organisation of data and information and its presentation through analysis, argument and use of evidence
Demonstrate understanding of scientific methods and the use of empirical and analytical approaches in scientific exploration and enquiry as well as laboratory processes in scientific investigation and experimental method
Demonstrate compentency in the application of basic numerical and statistical techniques as well as data handling, suitable for study at Level 4 and above
Develop and provide evidence of application of core academic study skills including time-management, study methods, research, academic writing and presentation skills (both written and oral)
