Module Outline

The module will be taught in lectures and workshops and in a research environment. These will combine to cover the preparation, completion and presenting of original research in a variety of forms (for example written dissertation, posters and oral presentations where appropriate). Students will attend presentations from external speakers during the regular departmental seminar talks. They will further be supported during their research both through formal and informal PI/group meetings and by ad hoc training (for example use of equipment and software). This will allow the student to acquire the skills needed to carry out their research as well as being able to generate and interpret results independently.

Module learning outcomes

Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge and critical awareness of specific current topics in chemistry

Demonstrate the ability to efficiently find and evaluate critically articles published concerning current topics in chemistry

Demonstrate the ability to formulate their own reasoned opinions in an advanced topic of chemistry and, where appropriate, propose and test new hypotheses

Demonstrate the professional skills required to practice chemical science and communicate original ideas, problems and solutions to a professional audience.
