Co-ordination Chemistry (F1083)
Co-ordination Chemistry
Module F1083
Module details for 2022/23.
15 credits
FHEQ Level 5
Module Outline
Coordination Chemistry provides a complete description of the non-organometallic molecular chemistry of the transition metals. It includes structure and bonding of coordination compounds, aspects of symmetry, inorganic reaction mechanisms, applications of NMR to inorganic systems and magnetochemistry.
Module learning outcomes
Describe quantitatively and qualitatively the electronic spectroscopy and magnetochemistry of transition metal complexes
Explain and describe the fundamental rationale for observed properties of transition metal complexes
Describe the synthesis, structure, symmetry, magnetoelectronic and spectroscopic properties of a given transition metal complex
Describe reaction mechanisms common to transition metal complexes with reference to synthesis and ligand transformations
