Policies at the University

It is important that a clear and consistent approach is taken to drafting and updating policies across the institution – as such, the University Executive Team and Council have agreed a Policy on the Creation and Management of University Policies ('Policy Framework') and a policy template which sits alongside this, in order to provide the necessary tools for those responsible for policies in their areas.

The aim of the University's Policy Framework is to make clear what a policy is and what policies should be used for, to differentiate between policies and other types of documents (e.g. procedural documents, codes of practice, etc), and to outline the process that should be followed when drafting, reviewing, and updating policies. An outline of where responsibilities lie in relation to policies is also included.

Please use the links below to read the policy, to download a copy of the University's policy template (which should be used whenever you are updating or drafting a University policy), and to view some additional guidance in relation to how the policy template should be used.

Contact and Advice

Information Manager Karen Blackman (part of the Information Management team in the Division of the General Counsel, Governance, and Compliance) is the University’s main point of contact for policies – please get in touch with her for assistance with use of the template and any queries related to the Policy Framework, as well as for reviews of policies to ensure adherence to the Framework prior to sending them onwards for the relevant approvals.

Policy Library and Links to Existing Policies

Following an audit of policies across the University, the Information Management team are currently working with policy owners to write new policies or to review and update policies, to ensure that they are up to date and accessible, correctly approved, and that relevant processes and guidance are in place to support them. Once completed, we will publish a Policy Library that will link to all University policies in one central location.

Whilst this work is ongoing, please see the list below of policies that have been recently reviewed and approved, using the policy template:
