The Global and Civic Engagement portfolio in MAH was established in January 2025 to advance the Faculty of Media, Arts and Humanities’ contribution to these University aims:
- strengthening our reputation as a higher education partner of choice
- optimising our global and civic engagement to maximise the visibility and impact of our work
- establishing global and civic engagement as core to our institutional identity and narrative.

Roles and responsibilities (indicative summary)
Associate Dean for Global and Civic Engagement (MAH) areas of responsibility include:
- overall direction and priorities in MAH GCE including budget, liaison with International Office and decisions about travel, and Global Engagement Office
- coordination and overview of all MAH courses with current or future articulation/progression agreements
- global engagement - meeting delegations to campus and travelling to represent MAH including in international recruitment settings
- civic engagement - meeting delegations to campus and travelling to represent MAH
- sits on relevant University level committees inc Global Engagement Leadership & Civic Engagement Leadership teams, CPASC (Collaborative Approval partnerships Sub-Committee), and MAH Faculty Board
- chair MAH Internationalisation Group (noting and communicating success; receiving student experience reports; monitoring attainment gaps; influencing curriculum innovation by noting current and future opportunities and demands and reporting them to Faculty Education Committee)
- chair Faculty Civic and Industry Coordination Group
- strategy for applicant facing materials including success stories in international settings
- strategy for comms to staff and external stakeholders
- reports to Exec Dean (MAH) and PVC (GCE).
Faculty International Partnerships Officer. (Focus: UG international recruitment opportunities) areas of responsibility include:
- communicating MAH UG course offers overall in international recruitment settings
- identifying and proposing plans for developing opportunities and links with MAH UG courses in international recruitment settings
- mapping UG articulation opportunities as they arise, including by liaising with convenors and HoDs
- support for Shanghai University links (with a focus on UG)
- support for PGT links
- global engagement - meeting delegations to campus and travelling to represent MAH as required
- support with visiting delegations to campus
- reporting to AD for GCE (MAH), meet regularly with AD to share progress, challenges and opportunities.
Faculty International Partnerships Officer. (Focus: PGT international recruitment opportunities) areas of responsibility include:
- communicating MAH PGT course offers overall in international recruitment settings
- identifying and proposing plans for developing opportunities and links with MAH PGT courses in international recruitment settings
- mapping PGT progression opportunities as they arise, including by liaising with convenors and HoDs
- lead for Shanghai University links, with a focus on the Dual PhD and the 3+M proposals
- developing and establishing processes for the 3+Masters agreements (mainly China and Taiwan)
- lead for PGT links to increase numbers of PGT students recruited by agents (Taiwan, China, Japan, South Korea andTurkey)
- support with visiting delegations to campus
- global engagement - meeting delegations to campus and travelling to represent MAH as required
- International Study Centre liaison (at university level)
- supporting and deputising for the Associate Dean as appropriate
- reporting to AD for GCE (MAH), meet regularly with AD to share progress, challenges and opportunities.
Faculty International Partnerships Officer. (Focus: civic opportunities and the global stage, and international student welcome) areas of responsibility include:
- supporting work on the civic and communicating its value in international recruitment settings
- welcoming of students arriving from abroad
- supporting work to monitor international student experience and proposing actions as needed
- V&E - supporting work to develop and promote the fee-paying offer
- study abroad - liaising with the MAH reps (Patricia Couteras for all of MAH except American Studies (Charlie Jeffries))
- liaison between English Language for Academic Purposes colleagues, and International Office
- developing opportunities and proposing links in North America, India and South America
- developing non-standard opportunities with international partners
- global engagement - meeting delegations to campus and travelling to represent MAH as required
- support with visiting delegations to campus
- reporting to AD for GCE (MAH), meet regularly with AD to share progress, challenges and opportunities.
Producer in Residence. Reports to the Research PS team. Supports GCE work by:
- supporting AD-GCE on preparing applicant facing materials for social media
- supporting AD-GCE on communications to MAH staff (and external stakeholders) on progress in the Global and Civice Engagement portfolio
- meeting regularly with AD-GCE to share progress, challenges and opportunities.
