Criminology Dissertation (604L5)

60 credits, Level 7 (Masters)

Spring and summer teaching

On this module, you’ll design and conduct a research project in criminology.

You’ll have a dedicated dissertation supervisor to guide you through your dissertation. You’ll critically use qualitative and/or quantitative research methods to address empirical questions within criminology.

Workshops will cover:

  • writing the proposal
  • research ethics and risk procedures
  • data analysis.

Teaching

100%: Practical (Workshop)

Assessment

30%: Coursework (Essay)
70%: Written assessment (Dissertation)

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 600 hours of work. This breaks down into about 4 hours of contact time and about 596 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We鈥檙e planning to run these modules in the academic year 2025/26. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
