Objects, Curation and Display (V4139)
15 credits, Level 4
Spring teaching
On this module, you’ll explore how histories of collecting and exhibitions inform today’s curatorial practice.
You’ll examine a wide range of exhibitions, institutions, and forms of collecting across time and across cultures. You’ll analyse formats in which objects are displayed, curated and interpreted.
Focusing on museums, galleries and collections, you’ll explore hands-on ways to reflect on objects, curation and display. You’ll not only examine how the choices of art world professionals and artists shape art, but also the historical and cultural contexts of practice, within a network of people including patrons and audiences.
Through this module, you’ll learn how museums of all sizes, exhibitions, and collections can impact people and communities to:
- promote social justice
- facilitate debate and reflection
- enhance human flourishing.
