Managing aliases
The alias functionality gives you the ability to use a much shorter name for a page that may be buried deep in the structure of your site. For example, you may have a page whose url is:
http://www.sussex.ac.uk/site/index/students/ug/courses/summer
but that may be too long a url to put in publications, which is generally preferred to be one word. You could add an alias called ‘ugsummer’ which points to that page in your structure, and people could then use the url:
http://www.sussex.ac.uk/site/ugsummer
Much shorter and easier to remember!
Adding and listing aliases
When you select the 'Alias' tab you'll be presented with a form to add a new alias and also a list of all aliases you have previous created, if any.
To add a new alias, enter the name of the alias – this will be what is used in the url – and the url you want the alias to point to. You can either type in the url (remembering to use http:// if you’re taking people to a different site) or path if you know it. If you want to select a page from your site you can click on the relevant button and view a dialog box of all your pages. You can simply select one from the list and it will fill in the details for you in the form. Select the ‘Save’ button to save the new alias.
Editing an alias
To edit an alias, select the edit icon next to the alias you wish to edit and the details will be inserted in to the form. Change the details as you wish and click on the save button.
Deleting aliases
You can delete one or more aliases at a time. Select the checkbox next to each alias, then choose ‘delete aliases’ from the drop-down list and click on the ‘Go’ button.
