Metadata

  • Keywords
A series of words that can describe the page and the content on it. They should be separated by a comma but can be multiple words. You should keep the number of words to the bare minimum and don’t be too generic about your terms. For example, try not to use words such as ‘university’ or ‘student’ as they are very generic
  • Description
A short description detailing what the content of the page is about and what you’re trying to convey to the user. You should try to keep this to about 250 characters.

Both ‘Description’ and ‘Keywords’ are meta-data information. That is to say, content that is not seen on your page but is behind the scenes and may be picked up and used by various search engines. It is very important to give meaningful information for each individual page and not repeat the same information throughout the site.
