Setting the page authentication
It is possible for you to make a page require some form of authentication prior to the user seeing the content. When you set the page authentication it affects the page you set it on and any child pages. If you have authentication already set for a page then will be reflected in the site structure as shown:
Set authentication
To set the authentication, select the
set authentication
link (or change authentication
if it has already been set) and you will be presented with a form that allows you to select multiple authentication options for that particular page.
You can select one or more authentication options, such as ‘on campus’ and ‘member of staff’, and then select how you want to multiple rules to be grouped together – either by AND or OR. That is to say that if you select the ‘on campus’ and ‘member of staff’ and set the grouping to be ‘AND’ then the user must authenticate with their ITS username and password and also be logging in from a computer on the campus network. Setting the grouping to ‘OR’ would mean that if the user if logging on from a computer on the university network then they will not be asked to authenticate but if they were logging in from another location (home, for example) then they would have to authenticate with their ITS username and password.
To set the authentication, select the options you want (some may open up extra form fields that you need to complete) and submit the form by selecting the ‘set authentication’ button.
Quick check settings
Once authentication has been set, if you hover over the ‘change authentication’ link on the page structure it will give you an overview of what authentication options you currently have set.
Please note:
Setting authentication to a page does not secure files which are linked to from the page. You can lock files for staff and student access only via the Files tab.
Please note:
If you choose the authentication method 'External people using a username and password you specify' you can not set other methods of authentication. This is a single method only.
Change authentication
To change your authentication, select the ‘change authentication’ link and you’ll be presented with the same form but with the previously selected authentication options already selected.
