Editing a file
Sometimes it’s required that you update the details associated to a file, or even the file itself. In order to do this you have two options; edit file and replace file. Edit file allows you to change the details such as title and description while leaving the file itself as-is, and replace file allows you to change the file itself while keeping all other information exactly the same. (This is handy, for example, when you have a handbook which changes every year but is always called ‘UG Handbook’.)
To edit the title and description of a file, click on the edit icon and you will be presented with a form containing the details of the file. Edit as required, submit the form and the file details will be updated. The update will not alter the file name, the file contents or any links to the file.
To replace a file but leave all the other details the same (title, description, folder association, etc.) you would use the replace icon . This will display a form from which you can browse for a new file on your computer or attached media. When you select a file and submit the form the file will be uploaded and the file name, no matter what it was on your computer, will be changed to match the previously uploaded file. This allows you to change the document but retain all of the same links.
